Like many women, I have had a lifelong struggle with accepting my changing body. Societal expectations and messages I received as a child continue to color my response to what I see in the mirror. When I listen to my inner critic I'm stunned to hear the harshness of my own words; I could never imagine saying them to a precious baby girl, so why do I say them to myself?
These hurtful statements take shape in my two-piece series "Girl Talk" - as text on infant onesies and in a hyper-feminine baby 'album' quilt. By incorporating these words into my work I hope to expunge them from my own vocabulary and perhaps, from the tender hearts of women everywhere. 2020
